Honestly.
Honestly honestly honestly.
I honestly cannot run 100 miles this week. Just because the calendar starts a new week, doesn’t mean my body does. I am ruined from jumping into high mileage too soon, throw in a hard Cross Country race (my first since injury), and then a 24 mile Sunday long run, and Monday morning I am in bits.
But life does not wait around for me to recover. I have to somehow crowbar myself out of bed at 5.30am and go straight to work. Very busy week ahead, lots of thinking and labouring out in the cold. I get home Monday, and I KNOW that if I sit down, I won’t get back up again and go for a run. I sit down anyway. No run.
Tuesday I set my alarm for 6am to go for a run, I sleep through it, I have no idea how that is even physically possible, my alarm is so loud and obnoxious.
Wednesday, after work I have to rush to dentist. I fall asleep while dentist is drilling away, who does that?! Then I rush home, help put kids to bed and promise myself I am getting my 10 mile run in, no matter what. So I finish my run at 10pm.
Thursday I am ruined again and I hit the sofa hard as soon as I am home from work.
Friday, I really want to run, but I don’t get time until late, and it is too dark outside, only option is my treadmill in basement, but it only does 7minute mile pace. I cannot keep up. After half a mile I am nearly thrown off the back. I’m not lying!
Honestly. Here is abit of honesty. I have run a marathon in 5.21 minute mile pace. That means 26 miles, back to back, each in 5min 21sec. Yet on Friday, I cannot for the life of me run half a mile at 7min mile pace.
How am I going to get back into shape before London Marathon rolls around in 3 months time? Hard. Work. No shortcuts, no bullshit. No magic wand. Just self-belief, a willingness to train hard, and a family that support me.
Lets do it. Lets see how I get on in the next 3 months.

Thing I’m digging this week:
Rachel Ann Cullen – Running For My Life
I run Chester parkrun with Rachel on Saturday morning. A little gang have coffee after. She signs her book for me. It is great to finally meet her. She is the first person I have made friends with through social media, and then met in real life (it is usually the other way round for me, old fashioned I know).
