Chester Marathon 2018

I often contemplate why it is that the marathon is so compelling, magnetising, for so many people. I think, for me, it is those conversations you are forced to have with yourself in those last 6 miles. Where everything is stripped back to you, and your most authentic voice. Have you really got what it takes? Do you really want it badly enough? Is your ‘why’ strong enough?

Berlin Buildup Week 8 of 11. Plas Menai 5km

Last week I decided to listen to my body, making the decision to lie in on Sunday when I felt fatigue (and headaches) setting in, instead of stubbornly following the schedule anyway. This week, guess what, I feel so much better for it, refreshed and rejuvenated. I hear a thousand voices all chime;
“told you so”

Berlin Buildup Week 7 of 11. 7 at 70

It is so much easier for me to write these blogs when I have nailed my training for the week. I feel like I can say whatever the hell I want, cos I’m the guy running 100 miles a week, so I can back it up.

This week, I only ran 70 miles, so I’ve lost a third of my credibility. I don’t want to write anything. But then, maybe these are the weeks you actually want to read about. The ones when I am not a machine, when life intervenes.

Berlin Buildup week 3 of 11. No Van Man

This week’s morning runs are made more exciting by the divebombing seagulls. They are little shits! Swooping me every time I turn my back. Humans are so low down in the pecking order in terms of fighting ability (unless armed with a weapon), that I refuse to be bullied by bloody seagulls. I stubbornly stick to my same morning route.
