Week 1 of 2 in Taper Town. After 8 weeks of good, solid training, with no injury or illness, the most important thing to remember is…
It is so much easier for me to write these blogs when I have nailed my training for the week. I feel like I can say whatever the hell I want, cos I’m the guy running 100 miles a week, so I can back it up.
This week, I only ran 70 miles, so I’ve lost a third of my credibility. I don’t want to write anything. But then, maybe these are the weeks you actually want to read about. The ones when I am not a machine, when life intervenes.
Dulwich 5km parkrun consists of 3 laps around the park. I have been targeting this run for a month. I did it 5 weeks ago, before I started my Berlin buildup, and I want to see how much I have improved. Also, I did it this time last year, so it will be a good indicator against where I am now vs last year.
This week’s morning runs are made more exciting by the divebombing seagulls. They are little shits! Swooping me every time I turn my back. Humans are so low down in the pecking order in terms of fighting ability (unless armed with a weapon), that I refuse to be bullied by bloody seagulls. I stubbornly stick to my same morning route.
I reckon I have a high pain threshold. It is impossible to really know. But running marathons, for a large part, is learning to deal with pain. In the race, in training, walking down the stairs with achey bones and tendons. I go through pain, then see if I can take a little bit more.
