if I can do it, so can you (maybe)
I learnt a lot from my race here last year. And it has been working. Through my marathon block this time, I ran my fastest 10k in 10yrs, as well as my fastest ever parkrun. The marathon sessions have all been faster than ever, and feeling better than ever too.
Cardiff Half, the weather, the atmosphere, the organisation, it is all incredible. I have been put up by a lovely couple (Gwenno and Dylan), have had a great night sleep, training has gone well, and in the warm up I am feeling light and ready. On the start line, with 27,500 runners behind me, I feel great. 4 miles into the race, we go up a hill. It hurts. I want to quit.
I am in pretty bad shape Monday. I keep moaning at work with the pain in my abs. I get told to shut it or I’ll get sent home, but it happens by itself. You don’t realise how much you need your abs until they hurt.
I’m lining up on the start line like a condemned man, in the warm up I could hardly break a 7min mile. And here I am, expecting to run 10 miles at 5.20 miling with teammate Tom, and then make our move from there.
